Current activity

  • The application for Heritage Lottery funding has broken down as our original partners have pulled out, we will continue to seek ways to obtain funding and would still like to incorporate a a local history facility and North Meols Heritage Centre in association with the North Meols Civic Society.
  • The BGCA volunteers have spent many hours at the far end of the gardens clearing away solid mud covered paths, overgrown vegatation, lake debris and revealing long lost path edging stones at the far end of the gardens where the lake narrows after its smelly bowl.
We envisage an easy walking wildlife educational Nature Trail with signage indicating the names of the flora and fauna present in that forgotten area of the park.
Also we have been installing many bird and bat nesting boxes in the trees.
Already the area is now being used again by grateful park patrons.
We are trying to get funding to dredge at least the edges of the lake at both ends and restore the aeration fountain and eventually get the lake suitable for boats again. (see gallery)
  • 70 park benches have now been fully renovated by our volunteers to July 2014. (see gallery)
  • Work on refurbishing the Aviary is almost completed by contractors signage and internal pen fittings to be carried out.
  • We continue to gain more sponsors for the display beds and containers to date we are very gratefull for 27 sponsorshps. (see gallery). If you wish to sponsor please contact via this site.
  • Our volunteers asked Sefton Council if they could refurbish the Toilet Block following long standing warranted public criticism of their condition.
We came to an agreement with the council that they would carry out some maintenance on the plumbing and fixtures and supply the materials before we paint.
We refurbished the block over 12 days in June and kept the facility open throughout.
The Association will oversee future maintenance.
  • The BGCA continue to hold events in the Gardens throughout the year, we have held an Easter Rabbit and Bonnet event, Daffodil planting and we will be holding our very popular Victorian Gala Day again on 31st August , Victorian Dress welcome. The Nursery staff will again have the Fernery prepared as a plants, lights and water grotto spectacular over the Christmas period, it is truly magical, bring the children to meet Santa.
  • We will inform you of new developments
